The Fraxel™ skin laser is a marvelous breakthrough in Laser Technology. Patients experience dramatic repair of aging and sun-damaged skin quickly with essentially no downtime.
Fraxel™ is the only laser that is FDA approved for treatment of all of the following conditions:
Fraxel™ is a non-ablative laser assisted by an optical tracking computer that precisely reads the contours of the face and body to rejuvenate skin without breaking the surface. Unlike traditional resurfacing lasers that evaporate the entire epidermis, Fraxel™ is named by its unique ability to treat a fraction
(5-35%) of the skin's surface at a time, leaving the remaining 65-95% intact to quickly heal the treated areas. Each treatment produces thousands of microscopic columns of laser energy, known as MicroThermal Zones, in your skin. This fractional treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated all at once.
As the skin heals, it eliminates old damaged cells and grows healthy new ones.
You will begin to feel the difference in your skin after the first treatment. With each treatment, your skin becomes smoother and fresher as Fraxel™ heals decades of aging. After 4-6 treatments, the treated area is completely resurfaced with beautiful younger skin on the inside and out.
Fraxel™ Laser Treatments are safely performed in our office using a topical numbing cream. If needed, Dr. Moskowitz will prescribe additional medication for relaxation.
The treatment area is thoroughly washed prior to the procedure. Then a layer of topical numbing gel is applied. Once the numbing gel has taken effect, a clear gelis applied to the treatment area and your Fraxel™ Treatment begins.
Treatment is well tolerated and feels like a prickling sensation. With the latest Roller Tips and sophisticated software, no blue dye is needed.
Dr. Moskowitz will glide the laser hand-piece across the area to be treated...face, neck, chest, hands or desired treatment location. A special cooling device will blow chilled air across the skin as it is being treated. As the hand-piece delivers the laser energy in tiny "dots", you will feel a heated prickling sensation and hear a sound from the machine that resembles radio static. In about 30 minutes, you're done.
Immediately after treatment, your skin will feel as if you have a mild sunburn for about an hour and will be slightly swollen for two to three days. You should expect very little to no discomfort. The skin will have a pinkish tone for five to seven days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing deeply and that dermal tissue is being repaired.
You may apply make-up or shave soon after treatment.
Typically patients find they can go back to work soon after treatment or the next day.
New epidermal skin develops immediately, within 24 hours. This process of skin repair involves:
Bronzing: Your skin will have a bronze appearance that lasts anywhere from three to 14 days, depending on the treatment level.
Flaking: Your skin will naturally and vigorously exfoliate as the reorganized epidermal skin replaces dead tissue. Flaking is similar to that of minor sunburn, but without the associated pain. Use of a moisturizer will mask the appearance of flaking.
Over the following weeks and months, the body repairs the deeper dermal tissues that have been affected by the Fraxel™ treatment, producing longer beneficial changes associated with a healthy, youthful appearance.
Sunscreen: Be sure to use sunscreen at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during both the healing phase and for several months after treatment. Apply a moisturizing sun block containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide with an SPF of at least 30. For added protection, use wide-brimmed hats when in direct sunlight.
Fraxel™ offers the benefits of speedy healing and no downtime. Side effects are minimal and typically involve swelling and redness. Mild swelling should subside within two to three days. The redness usually fades gradually within 5-7 days. Patients can apply make-up immediately after treatment and return to routine activities. There is limited, if any, risk of infection or scarring.
